Barton Hall

Built: 1917, Designed: Lewis F. Pilcher

“Its style is “Gothic Revival” and the exterior is native Cayuga bluestone. It was originally designed as a drill hall for the Department of Military Science…… For a long time, Barton Hall was the largest unpillared room in existence. The interior of the building covers almost 2 acres, and includes a indoor track with a circumference of 200 meters, serves as an auditorium/concert hall, and has been used for its basketball courts.” The structure “has permanent seating for 4,800.”The hall is named in honor of Col. Frank A. Barton 1891, the first ROTC commandant at Cornell.”
