Enabling Design: Elevating People to their Highest Level of Functioning & Independence

Esther Greenhouse, an Environmental Gerontologist–a specialist in the impact of the built environment on seniors–presented an educational seminar at HOLT Architects on “Enabling Design”.  Enabling Design focuses on using informed design to elevate people to their highest level of functioning and independence.  An understanding of and respect for people’s needs, abilities, and behaviors can result in unrestricted designed environments for all ages and physical capabilities.  A recent increase in the number of rehabilitation, transitional, and aging population facilities that HOLT is designing prompted Esther’s timely seminar.
